Look Elsewhere for Lessons in Thinking Strategically

I will list a series of pros and cons. Ultimately, I do not feel as though I got any value from this purchase; however, that is not to say that the book does not have merit for the right audience. I purchased the book hoping to gain insight on how to think strategically, and I do not feel that I have been improved in this way. This book does offer a whirlwind overview of Game Theory, and is not a bad place to start for the price of a cup of coffee. Also, I am impressed that I actually did read it in just 50 minutes, which shows that the authors and editors put a lot of thought into exactly what needed to be included and what did not in order to meet that 50 minute promise.
PROS:
* The book is easily read in just 50 minutes
* The book contains a list of key facts in Game Theory
* The key facts contained and the format of the book make it a great "Cliff Notes" version of Game Theory
CONS:
* The facts are very blunt and direct, and in a few cases I feel that the authors either mis-understood or mis-communicated the concept they were describing.
* The book does not contain enough practical discussion of application to make it useful in changing the way in which a person thinks.
* The "prisoner's dilema", which is just one classic game that highlights a situation in which a players best choice appears counter-intuitive, receives too much attention and prevents the authors from reviewing any other scenario with any length or detail.
Recommendation: If I had studied game theory 20 years ago and I needed a refresher, this book would be an excellent choice for me. However, any person who is looking to actively change the way that he or she thinks should look elsewhere and realize that it will take more than 50 minutes to achieve true progress.
