About the Author
Dr. Michael Adewale Adeniyi, Ph.D. was born at Ode Lemo, Ogun State, Nigeria on September 08 1961 to Chief and Mrs. Balogun Samuel and Rachael Adeniyi. He attended Baptist Secondary Modern School, Igboho, Oyo State, Nigeria and graduated in 1978. The same year he became a personal secretary to Rev. Father James M. Sheerin of Ireland at the National Missionary Seminary Of St. Paul, (NSSP) Iperu Remo, Ogun State, Nigeria. He attended the Adventist Seminary of West Africa (ASWA) between 1981 and 1988. He became literature evangelist between 1984 and 1990 in Nigeria and in Sweden. He graduated with BA Religion/Business in June 1988 and with MA Curriculum & Instruction in Britain in June 1990. He got his AD Nusing in December 1995 and Ph.D. Educational Administration and Supervision in U.S.A. in May 2000. He is curently working on a licensure as a certified Nursing Home Administrator. Between 1995 and 2000, he worked as staff and charge nurse of various hospitals, nursing homes, and behavioral centers. He became the president and CEO of Wholistic Home Health Assisted Living and Adult Foster Care Inc. Niles, MI, in 1996. He is an Adjunct Lecturer in the department of Humanities and Social Sciences at Southwestern Michigan College since 2003. He is an instructor of First Aid, CPR, and AED with American Red Cross from 2003 to present. He is an Elder and currently directing Health and Temperance and Coronary Health Improvement Project, (CHIP) of Seventh-Day Adventist Church, South Bend Chapter. He was awarded "The All Nigeria Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS) Merit", February 2006. He is a member of the American Red Cross, Michigan Assisted Living Association, Michigan and Indiana Nurses Associations, American Higher Education and Leadership Association, and Michigan Long Term Care Partnership.

Worthy companion to the extraordinary series

Specifically the current BBC show, not Elementary, the movies, or anything else.
It starts, as one would expect, with a chapter on how the series came to be, with the long train rides during the filming of Dr Who giving the creators time to come up with this idea. There’s also a bit on the casting; it’s hard to remember Benedict Cumberbatch wasn’t a gigantic star before this show started, whereas Martin Freeman could at least be called semi-famous. Also a big chapter on Conan Doyle, from his start as a doctor and how he based the character on one of his med school professors to him being fooled by fairies. Nothing new if you’re a huge fan, but concisely done for the newbies.
Finally we get to the episodes, with each of the nine given a chapter that includes a synopsis—forget about spoilers, if you haven’t seen them yet you shouldn’t be reading this—highlights, “Did you notice?”, references to the original books, interesting facts, nitpicks, and bloopers. Since I’m a huge fan of the books, I like how the author compares them to the filmed version; shamefully I admit I missed some. There’s also plenty of interviews to keep things fun.
All in all, there’s really nothing here that a fan wouldn’t like.

A Thorough Review Worthy of Mr. Holmes own analysis

I received this book for Christmas. Okay, I asked my wife to get it for me.
This book is extraordinarily thorough in detail and analysis of the characters, the original stories, connections, trivia, etc.
This would be a companion for someone who has seen all 3 seasons however, otherwise it is ripe with spoilers. I learned a lot about the two main actors, never knew Cumberbatch was so well educated, and even more info about the classic author. Wrote to Ms. Stafford praising her for her work, never received a reply however.
Ms. Stafford seriously did her research. Can't wait to read her other works about the famous detective once more seasons air.

A conspiracy between universities, publishers and the editor

I wish I could get contracted to slap together a 'greatest hits' of anthropological selections, supply some commentary more appropriate to World Book Encyclodpedia than a college text, and then charge $80 for it. Sign me up! The selections in this book cover most of the seminal thinkers in early anthropology, although as it progresses through time the criteria seems to grow more vague and seemingly random. There are no women covered in this massive tome other than Ruth Benedict and her dubious contribution of 'personality studies'; there is no mention even of Margaret Mead, let alone people like Mary Douglas. Some editorial choices seem to reflect the biases of the editors more than the canon of anthropology. For example, there is somewhere around 100 pages of text from Levi-Strauss, and a mere 10 or so from Clifford Geertz (the first essay in his Interpretation of Cultures). There are other glaring omissions based on strange logic (e.g. the choice to include a selection from Durkheim but NOT Marx or Engels, which is explained - weakly - in the introduction). The selections by Marshall Sahlins and Alfred Kroeber are probably some of the worst examples of their writing they could have found for an anthology, and will most likely turn students *off* from their work than endear them or make them curious for more. Furthermore, the editors simply do not provide the reader with the tools for analysis that are necessary to place these theorists in their proper historical and intellectual contexts. As mentioned above, the extremely brief, synoptic commentaries that serve as introductions to each piece could have been assembled by a high-school student surfing the internet. We are given an entirely-too-straight-forward, normative picture of the various authors' ideas, accomplishments and contributions to the field; we are not given any sense of the contentious nature of some of these ideas, how they were debated, criticized and elaborated upon both in the halls of academia and in the fieldwork process. A person could counter that this is simply not possible in an 'introductory'-type book, but I would refer them to Garbarino's rather thin volume 'Sociocultural theory in anthropology', which does an excellent job of this type of analysis. However, Bohannan and Glazer do include a few essays reprinted from long dead (and occasionally hard to find) journals like "Man" (such as Evans-Pritchard's latter-day rant against the application of pure scientific positivism to human societies). The end result is that, if you are assigned this book for a class (as I was), you really have no choice but to shell out the $75 or $80 because you will be hard pressed to collect all the various readings yourself at the university library. But if choice is actually a factor and you are simply looking for a comprehensive and lucid guide to anthropological theory, I would recommend Edmund Leach's "Social Anthropology" or Marvin Harris' "The Rise of Anthropological Theory". Meanwhile, if you must have a reader of the original, primary sources, this book will suffice, but there really ought to be more substance here -- espeically for the price.

An excellent review of the anthropological canon

This book is an excellent text on which to base an upper level undergraduate introduction to the history of anthropological theory, although most teachers will want to supplement it with additional readings. The introductory chapter essays provide interesting and helpful biographical data on each author, as well as material historically situating the textual excerpts offered. While the selections are generally well-chosen as to importance, brevity and ease of reading, some do not necessarily represent an author's best or most important work (e.g. the selection offered for A.L. Kroeber). The text covers basic trends in anthropological theory up to about the 1970's, and includes many historically significant authors who might otherwise be "written out" in favor of more recent theoretical stars. While I would not recommend this as the *only* reading for a theory class, it does a great job of introducing students to the history of anthropological theory, while leaving the teacher room to decide how and where to supplement it with additional (or more recent) readings.

A must for anthropologists

I'm an anthropology major in my senior year. One of my classes was Anthropological Theory. This book was the main reading. It is concise. It offers a multitude of anthropological view points that are the foundations of modern anthropological thought.
If anyone is looking to build a library of good scholarly works, this is a great foundation in that it offers many view points that have helped shape modern schoold of thought in many fields.

Best book I've come across so far for LED lights, and hydro/aqua/aeroponic growing

I bought this book specifically to better understand LED grow lights and its well worth every penny. I've read a couple of truly mediocre books on hydroponics so far and for the low price of this book, I was skeptical at first. I'm happy to say that I found this book truly useful. I know know what to look for when purchasing and LED grow light. The author goes over the specific color frequencies, and ratios of those color frequencies needed to make a good grow light. The author is up-front in saying that more data is needed before anyone can claim to make the perfect grow light, but the biology of most plants require some fairly basic combinations of colors/frequencies.
Aside from the insight gained on LED lights specifically, I also learned a lot about planning my grow room, including how to ensure that my equipment does not strain my existing circuitry, light control, etc. As a novice to hydro/aeroponics, I found this book to have tremendous value. I'll keep it on my digital bookshelf for many months to come. As it turns out, the first grow light I purchased on Amazon was well within the suggested lighting values recommended by this book. Dumb luck on my part, but good to know in hindsight that I made a lucky guess. Since then I have purchased that same grow light, plus a different one that incorporated UV and IR spectrums. If you are looking for usable advice for growing plants with LED lights, this is the book to get.

Good information on a relatively new lighting system.

Although he avoids mentioning it nearly entirely, this is about growing cannabis under LED lights. Not to worry, it still counts for food crops. Just ignore all the references to weird grow media and nutrient solutions and his advice will help with your tomatoes and such.

.I don't know when Mr Sloper wrote this - as opposed to when it was published - but good quality LEDs with 8-9 frequencies at 600w (but drawing about 300w) - use 3w not 5w bulb systems - are now available in the $150-200 range online. This really makes LEDs practical for small gardens.

Well worth reading, especially since there are so many misconceptions about this option.

Anyone already using or considering using LED grow lights should get this book. First substantial information I've come across about the fundamentals of using this type of lighting for indoor gardening. Very informative about all aspects! Well written!
